The 2026 season marks 50 years of professional surfing, and the WSL is commemorating with a major overhaul of the tour schedule and competition structure

? Returning Pipe Masters as the Finale

  • Pipeline Masters on Oʻahu’s North Shore will once again host the season finale in December, replacing the previous “Final Five” single-day format 

  • It will offer 15,000 points1.5× the value of a standard CT event—and all contending men and women will surf, with the top eight seeded deeper in the draw

The revamped CT will run from April to December, spanning 12 global stops across nine countries:

? Format Overhaul & Competitive Structure

1. Expanded Women’s Field:

  • The women's CT field grows from 18 to 24 surfers, improving equity and global representation 

2. Elimination-Only Format:

  • Non-elimination rounds removed—every heat counts from Day 1 to maximize pressure, performance and excitement 

3. Regular Season & Post‑Season Structure:

  • First 9 stops constitute the regular season, with 36 men and 24 women competing.

  • Only surfers' best 7 results (of 9) count toward qualifying for post‑season 

  • After event 9 (Lower Trestles), field narrows to 24 men and 16 women for two post-season events in Abu Dhabi (Stop 10) and Peniche (Stop 11).

  • The final rankings and World Titles are determined by each surfer’s best 9 results (out of 12) (including the Pipe Masters) 

4. World Title Points Weighting & Seeding:

  • Pipe Masters carries elevated importance with 1.5× points (15,000 points) and seeding advantages for the top eight ranked surfers heading in
